we never quote Jesus

sometimes, i notice little things..i pray that no one take offense, because this is literally NOT directed toward anyone in particular..
But, as of late, I have noticed a trend. All too often, I notice that a lot of Christians post status updates from famous preachers. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with that. But, tonight I started wondering why no one ever quotes the words of Jesus?
It was an observation.. I simply noted how I see dozens of feel good and uplifting posts by megapreachers all day, but no one has ever quoted Jesus.
I started thinking ..it's no wonder no one actually quotes Jesus.
He said some pretty hard things. I see people quote verses of scripture, but never the red lettered words of Jesus.

Could you imagine scrolling through facebook and reading, "Sell off your possessions and give your money to the poor. Trust in me and I will meet your needs." - Jesus

or

Narrow is the gate and few will enter. Work hard to get in. - Jesus

or

"You will be hated, mocked, persecuted, and even killed because you love me"- Jesus

or how about

Love your enemy, turn the other cheek, and if you have two coats, give one of them away - Jesus

I noticed how the quotes that I read are so far from what Jesus actually says, that I wonder if we haven't somehow delved into "another gospel" altogether.



am I alone in my thinking?

I can't help but think that, in many ways, we have pushed Jesus aside.  Sometimes, He seems secondary to whoever is popular in the pulpit at any given moment. It would be interesting to see what would happen if people actually started quoting Jesus...

maybe, I will have to try it..
